Los Cabos a trendy tourist area, located at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. I had only ever heard of it as “Cabo” the place where the Hollywood set vay-cay. I was aware that it had beautiful beaches and luxury hotels but did not know much more until I was fortunate enough to visit.
From the moment I arrived, there was a quiet sense of sophistication that set the tone. The feeling was of Mexican chic but with a cool Mediterranean vibe and we felt safe, welcomed, and somehow elevated by simply being there.

To get to Los Cabos, I flew BA/AA (codeshare) from London Heathrow in the morning, to Dallas Fort Worth in the USA for a small 2.5hr wait and then flew down to San Jose del Cabo. With the easy connection and the time difference, it meant I could have breakfast in the UK and the dinner in Mexico that very same day. I met girlfriends there, who had travelled via Mexico City.
The Los Cabos region encompasses two cities, Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Together, they form one metropolitan area. Cabo San Lucas being a bit more “spring break” with lively nightlife whilst San Jose is more refined and bougee with bars, restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries. The waters around Cabo are home to a variety of marine wildlife including whales and sharks.
My friends and I stayed at the stunning 5* Viceroy Los Cabos for a few nights. The resort itself is an architectural masterpiece. Everywhere you look you can see water, whether that of the beach on which it is located, or the elevated walkways around the property under which water flows.
Each of us had our own room; all of which were modern, spacious, and sunlit with electronic shutters for privacy. My Suite was ground floor and had its own plunge pool in room. The welcome note and plate of goodies from the General Manager Alex, has ranked top for me on the best hotel welcome amenity (only just beating Four Seasons, Nevis)
We dined in all the restaurants, with my highlights being Cielomar Rooftop on night one, Nidito for beachside sushi and my favourite was the authentic Mexican cuisine at Awacate Kitchen- think churros and hot chocolate, homemade tortilla chips dipped in guac and the freshest ceviche.

The girls and I used the resort pushbikes to ride into San Jose, only a few minutes away. We browsed the boutiques, marvelled at the vibrant and expressive artwork which is all around the town and stopped for some Mexican food. We also went on a luxurious yacht to enjoy the picturesque views of Cabo from the water, swam in the ocean and had our photo taken at the famous Arco de Cabo San Lucas at Lands’ End local landmark.
I absolutely loved this trip which had an unmistakable energy, I felt that everyone I encountered had a grace and presence about them and our entire experience felt exclusive yet accessible- bring on my next trip!
