When you think about what a honeymoon should look like, clear blue skies, crystal clear ocean and silky white sands immediately spring to mind – and that is exactly what we experienced during our honeymoon in the Spice Isle, Grenada.
This was our first trip to Grenada; we stayed at family owned and run Blue Horizons Garden Resort. We arrived late evening and despite it being at night, we arrived and entered a garden oasis lit up so beautifully. The sounds of the birds welcoming us was the first thing we noticed – Blue is spread over 6 ¼ acres of lush, tropical gardens and home to 27 species of tropical birds. We walked up to our room listening to nature, we stayed in a Deluxe One-Bedroom Partial Ocean View room which we loved. Super spacious and comfortable, this room type includes a full kitchen and gorgeous views out to the gardens and Caribbean Sea.

After being welcomed with the resort’s signature Rum Punch on arrival – made all the better with nutmeg grated on the top – we got changed and spent the evening enjoying dinner by the pool at Aqua Terrace. The service was amazing and the food was everything we wanted and more.
The next day we had our first Grenadian breakfast, La Belle Creole restaurant is set up in the hills of the resort overlooking the garden oasis below and ocean views across to bustling Saint George’s. We ordered the Saltfish Souse and Coconut Bakes, and it was to die for. The bakes were so good we even asked for the recipe! With our table by the window with a cool sea breeze, we could have sat there for hours.

Then it was time to take a short walk to Grand Anse Beach, which took our breath away when we first saw just how clear the water was. Stunning. The resort is just 300 yards from Grand Anse Beach, not even a 5-minute walk. We spent the day here, trying some of the local beach bars, Umbrella’s, 61° West and Esther’s are musts! After walking back along the beach and over the road we were back in our garden retreat, we opened our door to a beautifully decorated room. The team had placed flowers from the garden on our bed, left us a honeymoon present and note from the hotel owner, such a lovely personal touch!

The following day we took part in a garden tour which was fantastic, incredibly interesting to learn about the local flora and fauna. Blue is a Green Globe certified property, they have many examples on what makes them a sustainable option; energy reduction, water conservation etc but in the garden is where we found their sustainability efforts most interesting. They have a Tree Planting program, have planted over 15,000 indigenous plants, use a technique of garden bed edging, drainage, and flooding solutions. An established Bee apiary with over 18 hives and honey production. Plus, a herb and vegetable garden and fruit trees on property, the team use ingredients from the garden in menu planning.
Our final night saw us enjoy more Rum Punches, more delicious food and we ended our stay with a walk through the gardens under moonlight.
We cannot wait to come back!
